If you’re craving a stealthy sci-fi experience that doesn’t demand dozens of hours and a triple-A budget, Steel Seed might just be the breath of fresh air you’re looking for. This sleek new action title has just launched on both Steam and the Epic Games Store, bringing with it a heady mix of stealth, combat, and cinematic traversal.
In Steel Seed, you play as Zoe, a determined protagonist clad in a futuristic exosuit, her eyes the only visible glimpse of humanity beneath the armour. Accompanied by her flying droid companion, Koby, Zoe ventures deep into an underground facility teeming with hostile machines. Her mission? To find her father, and survive whatever the facility throws at her along the way.
Developed by Storm in a Teacup, Steel Seed draws aesthetic and thematic inspiration from the likes of Blame!, RoboCop, and even action-adventure staples such as Uncharted and Assassin’s Creed. The result is a tightly crafted experience that blends high-intensity melee combat with moments of calculated stealth and atmospheric exploration.
Gameplay-wise, you’ll find yourself darting between cover, scaling walls, leaping across collapsing bridges, and taking down foes with a blend of slashing and sneaking. Combat strikes a balance between frenetic hack-and-slash and more considered, soulslike-style encounters. Meanwhile, stealth sections let you use Koby to distract or lure enemies, while Zoe crouches through tall cyber-grass to remain unseen.
While most of the game plays out in a traditional third-person perspective, there are sequences that shift to a side-on 2D view, switching up the pace as you dodge gunfire and navigate platforming segments. Upgrades come via a skill tree system, and there’s a sprinkling of puzzle-solving too, often involving your ever-helpful droid sidekick.
If this sounds like your kind of sci-fi adventure, Steel Seed is available now on PC. It’s currently enjoying a 15% launch discount on both Steam and the Epic Games Store, bringing the price down to £28.47 / $32.38. There’s also a free demo available on Steam if you’d like to get a feel for the game before committing.
