When Rockstar Games dropped the first Grand Theft Auto VI trailer back in December 2023, the internet practically broke. But now, as we find ourselves in April 2025 with no second trailer in sight, many fans are starting to come to terms with an unusual reality: Rockstar is in no rush – and that’s perfectly fine.
Let’s be honest – GTA VI doesn’t need a traditional marketing campaign. It’s arguably the most anticipated game of all time. The franchise has a massive, loyal fanbase that’ll snap up copies no matter how little is shown before launch.
Still, even Rockstar won’t want to completely bypass the opportunity to bring in new players, which means a gameplay trailer or second reveal is likely on the cards – eventually.
Recently, Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Rockstar’s parent company Take-Two Interactive, gave a bit of insight into the publisher’s strategy. According to Zelnick, the goal is to preserve the game’s “anticipation” and “excitement” rather than spoil the moment with a drawn-out marketing cycle.
“We do have competitors who will describe their release schedule for years in advance,” Zelnick explained. “We found that the better thing to do is to provide marketing materials relatively close to the release window in order to create that excitement… and balance the excitement with unmet anticipation.”
So, how close is “close” when it comes to the upcoming autumn/fall launch?
Unusually, fans across the GTA community seem to be on the same page – and that page reads: Rockstar will do what Rockstar wants.
“It’s quite literally in the air. There’s no pattern from previous games, no leaks. NOTHING. We just live our lives and wait and it will be here before we know it,” posted Reddit user Sneaux_.
“I prefer no announcement, just the trailer dropping on the day they decide to. It’s gonna be epic and the world will stop to watch it,” added IlgnerJuan.
Historial_Leg5998 agreed: “Announcing release dates for trailers would be below them at this point.”
It’s hard to argue with that sentiment. Rockstar knows it has the gaming world in the palm of its hand. The moment that second trailer drops, the internet will ignite once again – whether that’s weeks or months before release.
Until then? We wait.
And when it comes, it will be worth it, but for now, here is the first GTA 6 trailer:
