Indie Game MORBID METAL is getting backed by Ubisoft

Indie developer Screen Juice, backed by a surprising ally in Ubisoft, is charging into the spotlight with Morbid Metal — a sci-fi roguelite that blends frenetic action, shapeshifting mechanics, and stylish visuals into one electrifying package. The game is set to enter Early Access exclusively on Steam this summer, with a brand new trailer giving fans a first proper look at what’s to come.

Unveiled during the Triple-I Initiative showcase, the trailer for Morbid Metal shows off its fast-paced, combo-heavy combat set against a backdrop of decaying future cities. Unlike the sprawling open-world adventures we usually associate with Ubisoft, this is a sleek and focused indie experience — one that’s already turning heads in the roguelite scene.

Morbid Metal sets itself apart with a unique shapeshifting system that lets players swap between multiple characters mid-fight. Each character comes with their own fighting style and abilities, allowing for tactical flexibility and stylish takedowns in the middle of chaotic battles.

Players will explore semi-procedurally generated environments — the ruins of a long-fallen civilisation — while hacking, slashing, and dodging their way through relentless waves of enemies. Every death resets the run, but new characters and upgrades ensure that no two attempts feel quite the same.

Screen Juice and Ubisoft have confirmed that Morbid Metal will debut in Early Access in summer 2025, with Steam as the exclusive platform. While a specific date hasn’t been locked in yet, the game is already available to wishlist — a smart move if you’re intrigued by its kinetic gameplay and striking aesthetic.

As for how long the Early Access period will last, the developers haven’t said. But based on what’s already been shown, it looks like Morbid Metal has a solid core ready to expand with community feedback.

If you haven’t already, be sure to check out the new trailer — and maybe even give that wishlist button a click. For fans of games like Dead Cells, Hades, or Risk of Rain, this could be one to watch.
